Getting Back on the Slow Carb Wagon

by kath on June 2, 2011

Wow! It’s been just over a week since I finished my first 30 days on the slow carb diet. Although my original goal was to lose 20 pounds in the first 30 days, I was delighted to lose 19. Not bad for a woman with slow metabolism!

To celebrate the 30-day mark, I enjoyed a wonderful cheat day starting with lunch at Dairy Queen (onion rings, a chili dog, chicken strips and an ice cream sundae!), candy for a snack, followed by pizza for dinner plus cookies! Oh, it tasted SO good. And I only gained 2 pounds!

Next day I was back on program as I traveled to New York. I did pretty well on Thursday and most of Friday. I packed low carb food for the trip, skipped the fast food and only watched as the kids scarfed hot dogs, fruit and snacks while we toured. Alas, Friday night I gave into the temptation to have some pizza and on Saturday skipped ice cream with the kids, but ate fast food and cookies all the way home. Then, of course, we were into the Memorial Day holiday. One step forward, two steps back.

The bad news: 7 pounds gained in 4 days. Especially awful considering we must have walked for at least 18-20 hours over the course of the trip. Ugh!

It’s funny how freaking hard it is to get back on the diet wagon after a few days off. Tuesday I got back to the program. I was SO hungry – the sugar withdrawal is really awful. Did pretty well except for snacking on some nuts and a couple of crackers. By this morning, I had lost half the weight I gained so it seems to have been mostly water. Whew!

I’m still pretty hungry, but hope to get back into the rhythm tomorrow. Gearing up for the next 30 days!
